Il est où, mon téléphone ?
The bill arrives, the phone does not, and the whole table turns into a grammar exercise.
Épisode 4 gave you tu, il, elle and the polite vous. This lesson leaves the verb alone for once and works on the two things that surround it: where something is, and whose it is. You also get the four sentences you need at the end of every meal in France, from l’addition, s’il vous plaît to je peux payer par carte ?
Texte
Marc : Merci ! Je peux payer par carte ?
Véronique : Bien sûr.
Marc : Ah… Il est où, mon téléphone ?
Théo : Sous votre serviette !
Marc : Ah oui ! Merci. J’ai la tête ailleurs.
Théo : À la pêche ?
Véronique : Théo, ça suffit.
Théo : Ben quoi ? Je pose juste une question !
Marc : Pas de souci. Il a raison !
Hover any word for its sound and its English, or read the whole text in English first. Marc finishes his lunch. This time he is happy: the fish is good, and so is the coffee. He looks at the fish tank near the door. Marc is opposite the window. On the table there is an empty plate, a glass and a cup of coffee. His fishing rod is behind the chair, and his basket is next to the table. On the left, the tank is under the sign "Le Poisson rouge". The goldfish, for its part, is still in its tank. Marc wants to pay, but he cannot find his phone. He looks in his pockets, then in his basket. Nothing. He looks under the table, on the chair, behind the basket, between the napkins. Still nothing. "This is not my day…" he says. Théo sees the phone under the napkin. He smiles. Véronique looks at him. She knows: Théo always talks too much! Véronique comes over with the card machine. Théo is already in front of the table, with a big smile. MARC: The bill, please. How much is it? VÉRONIQUE: That comes to eighteen euros. The coffee is on us! MARC: Thank you! Can I pay by card? VÉRONIQUE: Of course. MARC: Ah… Where is my phone? THÉO: Under your napkin! MARC: Ah yes! Thank you. My head is elsewhere. THÉO: Out fishing? VÉRONIQUE: Théo, that is enough. THÉO: What? I am only asking a question! MARC: No problem. He is right!

How the question really comes out. The book says Où est mon téléphone ? Marc says Il est où, mon téléphone ?
Spoken French likes to put the question word at the end and to name the thing afterwards: Ça fait combien ?, Tu vas où ?, C’est qui ? Both are correct. The second is what you will hear.

Plan de l’épisode (нотатки для викладача, 60 хв)
Exercice 5 (vrai / faux). |
і Je peux payer par carte ?
Production écrite. |
