On Tuesday, Mia and Sam wait for Leo after school. He's sitting on a wall, his eyes half closed. “You look terrible,” says Sam. Leo laughs a little. “Thanks.”

Then he talks. His parents have strict rules: he mustn't use his phone after nine. He must do homework for three hours every day. He mustn't go out on school nights. So he waits until they are asleep. Then he edits his films until one or two in the morning.

“Films are the only thing I'm good at,” he says. “But my dad says films are not a real job.” Sam says, “You must sleep, Leo. You can't live like this.” Leo stands up. “I know. That's why I'm quitting. The club, the films, everything.” And he walks away.
