By Sunday evening, the photo has two thousand views. Parents are sharing it. Someone writes, “My son is NOT going to that club again.” On Monday, Mia notices Gabe in class. He's drawing a book. Someone says he helps his gran at the library's book club.

After school, the four friends meet at the club. The room looks normal: clean floor, grey chairs, nothing broken. “We didn't even use this room on Friday,” says Sam. “The tournament was in the school hall. We cleaned the hall after it. I washed the cups. Leo picked up the rubbish. Mia and Ava moved the tables back.”

Ava nods. “At ten, we carried the board games back here. Everything was fine. I locked the door and walked home with Mia.” Jo comes in. She looks tired. “The council called me this morning. They want a meeting on Thursday. They want to see this room. And they want to talk about closing the club now, not in December.”
