Je suis + nom / métier
Your first French sentence. Say who you are in one breath.
The rule
To say who you are, use Je suis + your name or job. Simple — but with one important difference from English:
English: I'm a teacher. · I'm a student.
French: Je suis professeur. · Je suis étudiant.
No article (un / une) with professions in French!
French: Je suis professeur. · Je suis étudiant.

- Je suis directeur / directrice. /di.ʁɛk.tœʁ/ I'm a manager.
- Je suis conducteur / conductrice. /kɔ̃.dyk.tœʁ/ I'm a driver.
- Je suis sa maman. /ʒə sɥi sa ma.mɑ̃/ I'm his/her mum.
- Je suis son papa. /ʒə sɥi sɔ̃ pa.pa/ I'm his/her dad.
Masculine / Feminine: Many jobs change form. étudiant (m) → étudiante (f). Some are the same for both: médecin, professeur, touriste.
