On Saturday, it rains, but Jo has an idea. The stall moves inside, next to the school entrance. Everybody has to walk past it. The friends wear yellow T-shirts. Mia draws a big menu with funny cupcake faces.

The first customer is a little girl. “I'd like a chocolate cupcake, please.” Then a teacher: “Can I have two lemonades?” By twelve o'clock, there is a queue. Leo takes the money. Ava serves the drinks. Sam talks to everyone, of course.

One man is rude. “Why is it so expensive? This is a school fair!” Mia is nervous, but she answers politely. “It's for our club heating, sir.” He buys three cupcakes and pays with a ten-pound note. At four o'clock, Mia checks the money box against her list of sales. The list says £225. The box has only £215. She counts twice. Then she looks up, pale. “There's ten pounds missing.”
