Leonardo da Vinci framed the figure of Christ in The Last Supper with golden proportions, and the Mona Lisa's face is often said to sit inside a golden rectangle (debated, but striking).
Salvador Dalí did it on purpose: The Sacrament of the Last Supper (1955) is painted inside a giant dodecahedron, and the canvas itself is a golden rectangle. Georges Seurat placed horizons and figures along golden sections.
The Parthenon in Athens is the classic example — its façade is often mapped onto a golden rectangle (historians argue the Greeks may not have planned it). Notre-Dame de Paris shows similar proportions.
The strongest proven case: architect Le Corbusier built an entire design system called the Modulor directly on the Golden Ratio and the human body, then used it across real buildings.
Designers split a room roughly 62% to 38% (the Golden Ratio) instead of 50/50: a large sofa zone and a smaller side zone, a long wall broken into two unequal parts.
It guides where to hang art (on the golden section of a wall, not dead centre), the ratio of a coffee table to a sofa, and the popular 60-30-10 colour rule. The aim is balance that feels natural, not symmetrical.
Analysts found that many of Mozart's sonatas split at the golden section — the music turns at about 62% of the way through. Béla Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta builds a passage on Fibonacci numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, then back down.
Debussy shaped phrases by these proportions, and modern pop often places the final "drop" or key change near the golden section of the track.
Brand designers often build logos on a grid of overlapping circles and golden rectangles so the shape feels balanced and stays crisp at any size, from a billboard to a phone icon.
